Happy Thanksgiving from the Adirondacks! I spent a delightful day with Nancy, my favorite hiking buddy. What better to do when the temperature drops to 19 degrees than snowshoe the 10 miles of gentle trails in the Santanoni Preserve, In addition to our snowshoe day, I have done more running and walking in the past week than I did all month! I am building up some great inspiration to begin the artwork for my exhibition at the Lake George Arts Project, Courthouse Gallery next November 2015. You know what that means? Many trips to this magically beautiful landscape.

The Lizard found a home!
UncategorizedGreat news today, I am happy that my watercolor drawing, “The fearless lizard drops it’s tail, swiftly climbing to new heights.” did climb to new heights. He was sold today from my exhibition at The Gallery at Pioneer Bluffs in Matfield Green, KS.
This exhibition runs through December 21st and I will be in Kansas for a closing reception on December 12. See you in Kansas!
Meet the Artist, Sunday
UncategorizedThis is it, meet the artist day at Wave Hill, November 16 at 1:30. My exhibition has been up since October 18th and I have met many a friend at Wave Hill for a nice tour, but this weekend is the big one, where everyone can come and help me celebrate the completion of this year long project. Be sure to check out the subway construction if you are coming up on the 1 train, driving, bus and metro-north are all options, see the travel page at Wave Hill.
If you have never been to Wave Hill you are in for a real treat. This is a very special place, with a great cafe, great art exhibitions, and beautiful gardens that you can hang out all day in. I hope to see you Sunday, after that I am off to Canada for a couple weeks on a new adventure in artist residencies.
Wave Hill Exhibition Complete
UncategorizedYesterday I finished the installation of Nomadic Geography, my “interdisciplinary arts project that visually translates the visceral experience of trekking remote landscapes into linoleum block prints, drawings, and room-size installations.” That is my official one sentence description. I will be doing a talk on November 16 at 1:30, but you are welcome to visit the Garden and Cultural Center any day of the week, exception Monday. Post your one sentence description here, or better yet, tweet it!
Printmaking Center of New Jersey Exhibition Opening
Uncategorized
With my exhibition open in Kansas, three pieces sold, 17 framed pieces available at the Gallery at Pioneer Bluff, until December 14, I moved on to New Jersey to install that piece.
I spent all day with my friend John Shorb helping me at the Printmaking Center of New Jersey, cutting, pasting and tacking up 100’s of linoblock printed papers.
We had a great time but were really tired in the end. John was amazing to work with. The exhibition is curated by Sheila Goloborotko and included artists, Jen Blazina, Richard Hricko, Elizabeth Mackie, Jill Parisi, Hester Stinnett and of course me. I especially love Jill Parisi’s work, we met recently at the Southern Graphics International Conference and I am so happy to be in a show with her. Here is a pic of me deciding what the heck piece goes where. It is all done on site.
The reception is Saturday, October 18 from 1-4pm and the gallery is located at 440 River Rd, Branchburg, NJ 08876, (908) 725-2110. It will be up until December 7, but please try to stop by the reception and say “hi.”
Kansas Art Week
UncategorizedI am so excited. “In the Spirit” my exhibition of 20 linocut collage drawings is currently being hung beautifully at Pioneer Bluffs. The opening is Saturday from 2-5 and it is during the Fall Festival. Check out all the activities! I want to do some geocaching!
Tonight I head to the Kansas City Art Insitute where I will spend the morning giving a talk and critiquing students. I am looking forward to seeing my friend Laura Berman, the best printmaker/artist in KC!
While at the KCAI, Conrad and Homer get to hang out with the dog sitter. I already prepared them by taking a nice long swim this morning at Chase Fishing Lake in the beautiful Flint Hills of KS. Hopefully they will be a bit calmer after our 12 hour yesterday.

The Gallery at Pioneer Bluff Exhibition Opening
UncategorizedHilary Lorenz: ‘In the Spirit’ and April Flanders’ “Advance” will open October 4th from 2 to 5pm at the Gallery at Pioneer Bluff, Matfield Green, Kansas!
This series of mixed media drawings began during my artist residency at Outpost Studios in Matfield Green, KS and was completed in Abiquiu, NM. When I arrived in Matfield Green, after driving from NYC (along with my two Labradors), I felt as if I had driven into a giant, secret bubble where blue sky meets endless green hills. For as far as I could see it was only green and blue — no trees, no buildings, nothing to interrupt this endless vision. It was magical.
The exhibition can be visited from October 4 until December 21 2014 Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10:00 to 5:00 or by appointment (620) 753 3452 – (620) 953-2035
Matfield Green is 2 hrs southwest of Kansas City, 1 hr northeast of Wichita.
Take the Cassoday exit from I-35 or follow Highway 177 from Manhattan south.
You will find The Gallery at Pioneer Bluffs 1 mile north of town
on the east side of Highway 177 (a national scenic byway).
Drawing #20 Done!
UncategorizedSpirit animal of the week? That’s right, it is the firefly. This is watercolor collage drawing #20, it will be sent to the framers to meet the other 19 tomorrow. It is a real wacky one, the fireflies are hand colored linoleum block prints slightly raised off the surface of the paper as it they are flying. Super Cool! These fireflies are here to remind you to, “shine your light.”
Two pieces have already sold from my studio. They will still be in the exhibition for all to see. These smart collectors knew to buy one now because once at the gallery with the commissions added on, the price rises, and then only climb for there. So if you even think you might want one, talk to me now. hilary@hilarylorenz.com
Printmaking Workshops, Next One August 30.
UncategorizedTo give my studio life a bit of variety and to make a bit of cash, I have been teaching one day printmaking workshops. I started these in my home in NYC, where 2-3 people come over, and I teach them to draw, carve and print an edition. It has been a blast. Now I am offering one day workshops in my very own Abiquiu, NM printmaking studio. Just $100 for the day, plus $25 for materials and each person walks out with an edition of at least 10 prints. Prior to the workshop each person will receive a 34 page booklet of helpful tips. No matter what the person’s experience is, it always take just about 6 hours. So if you want to join us on Saturday August 30, confirm with me now, as I limit it to 5 people. If you and a friend want to come another day, just let me know. The very last day I can offer a workshop before I leave for my exhibitions is Friday September 26th. So get yours now!
August 18 Spirit Animal
UncategorizedI had a great weekend of running up Wheeler Peak in Northern New Mexico, a 16 mile round trip from 9400 ft of altitude to 13,100.’ After being pelted with hail, sleeting rain, freezing winds and having to outrun thunder and lightning, I took my Monday morning aching quads to the printshop.
Fitting of yesterday’s run the Elk is my spirit animal of the week. The elk is associated with nobility, perseverance, endurance, relationships with others, stamina, strength, agility and pacing. I used all of these traits in yesterday’s run and called them up again this morning to draw, carve and hand print this weeks Spirit Animal Edition. I do this one day a week, each week, usually on Monday. Check back often as you animal may just show up next!

There may be a peacock or two left from last week. I will add one animal a week to this collection.
