Statement
As an interdisciplinary artist, I create artwork using printmaking, drawing, installation, and any combination thereof. Grounded in traditions of performance walking, I use trekking to investigate ritual and rhythm that test my physical and psychic boundaries. I utilize tools such as GPS tracking, audio recording, and photography to record my treks and pose questions of wandering, displacement, routes, and territory. The concept is inspired by my practices of long-distance running, printmaking, encountering nature, and experiencing raw solitude.

  1. Hilary, my husband Mike and I camped on the land you purchased on the Branch River in North Hudson. Ken Flagg allowed us to camp occasionally during the summer (always in a small tent). We’d bring our Black Lab Rugar Redhawk along and walk upriver knee deep in the water while he explored the brush sniffing all scents. I called our camp area “my little piece of heaven.” Mike constructed a solid picnic table and a clever movable grate to cook our meals over. We’d put up a Hummingbird feeder first thing, pulley-style on a Cedar tree branch above the river. It took less than ten minutes for a bird sip the nectar. One night we were startled by a Great Blue Heron’s cry, more like a croaking. Rugar spotted a Fisher one afternoon creeping along a path towards camp. So many memories, I just wanted you to know how much we appreciated Ken’s hospitality. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make an offer to buy the property. Mike had a two-bay garage built as a retirement plan. He’s the head mechanic at Hyde Fuels, and I’m semi-retired. Can I contact you to talk about this?
    Gratefully,
    Carrie A. Conrad
