Bundled up and printing

What is 30 prints in 30 days? Simply it is a challenge for me and an offer to you.

My Challenge: Make one new linoleum block print every single day in the month of January. Draw, carve and hand print up to 10 impressions of a 4″ x 6″ block onto 8″ x 10″ paper. Every single day.

Your offer: I often make room size installations, 6 foot drawings, or complex collages that are either too big, too expensive or just not quite right for some collectors. This is no risk, for the cost of a couple beers you can buy an original hand pulled print, just $20.

Why so inexpensive? This is a launch of a new business model, one where I make like crazy, small works for small budgets.  I only make 10 impression of each block, so they are rare but I  make 300 prints using 30 different blocks over the course of the month, one block a day.

How does it work? Each day at 8pm EST  beginning January 1, 2015 (if I can get my schedule right) I will announce the new print. Only 10 will be available, and there will be a link to Etsy. The first 10 to buy the print gets its and no more of that block will be made. I will mail your print to you within 3 business days.

Last Print of the Year

Prints

pegasusThis is my last print of 2014. It is a 12″ round double sided print for the exchange portfolio titled Vinyl to be shown at Southern Graphics International Conference in Knoxville, TN come March.

From_VictroliaThe subject of the portfolio with 27 artists, celebrates vinyl records. Knoxville is a great music city inside of a great music state of TN. Artists pulled from some of the music history of Knoxville or their personal relationship with vinyl. Mine, well, let’s just say I took a lot of leeway. But the title, “From my Victrola” is the real deal. I spent my childhood in my grandmothers second floor bedroom listening to 78’s on her Victrola while dressing up in 1930’s clothes. What does that have to do with this? Well who knows but it informed my relationship to music.
VictroliaFor the rest of 2014 I will be glueing this round black paper circle that was printed with the Pegasus wings onto the back of the paper. It will then be complete and shipped out.

Happy New Year!

P.S. None of these prints are available, however beginning January 1, I am launching 30 prints in 30 days, where I will carve and print a new piece each day and sell from for only $20. Stay tuned.

What a fantastic three months. Here are three parting photography of my Wave Hill exhibition. The wall of leaves got packed down to one plastic tub, the bears, coyote, and lean-to rolled up, and the plants piled up. The result; a clean and clear gallery for the upcoming artist in residence. Check out the opportunities folks!

The work from the Gallery at Pioneer Bluffs is down, with some of the pieces still available through Saatchi Art Gallery On-line. You can check that out.

What is ahead? I am working on an edition of 30 prints for a portfolio entitled “Vinyl” curated by Anita Jung to be shown at the Southern Graphics International Conference and collected by Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art at Kennesaw State University. I am also working on pieces for an exhibition at the Courthouse Gallery, Lake George, NY.  And I just got awarded a Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Process Space residency on Governors Island for Winter/Spring 2016.
As a Process Space participant, I will receive:

  • A dedicated  studio space, within a larger shared space, for five months;
  • Access to resources like Materials for the Arts and LMCC Staff assistance;
  • Audience development opportunities through Open Studios;
  • Publicity through LMCC’s website as well as its digital communication channels.

In 2016 I will also be jurying the members exhibition for the Printmaking Center of NJ. So I am looking pretty good for 2015 and 2016. I still have a few grant applications out there and I am always looking for new opportunities, but on this day, Winter Solstice 2014, things are looking really bright.

As the Bob Seger “Turn the Page” lyrics go, “all strung out from the road” that will be me, walking into the gallery today at Matfield Green, Pioneer Bluffs, KS today.

My eyes are blurry after 10 hours of driving each day for the past two days, another 4 hours to go today, but I am excited to be back in Kansas. The dogs will be happy to go to Chase Fishing Pond. I will be happy to have another great dinner at Ad Astra in Strong City.  But most of all I am thrilled to be back with Ton and Ans at their beautiful gallery. I am still 270 miles away, but the reception is 2-5, I will be there so come by and have a glass of wine and take home a  new drawing or print. See you soon.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Adirondacks! I spent a delightful day with Nancy, my favorite hiking buddy. What better to do when the temperature drops to 19 degrees than snowshoe the 10 miles of gentle trails in the Santanoni Preserve,  In addition to our snowshoe day, I have done more running and walking in the past week than I did all month! I am building up some great inspiration to begin the artwork for my exhibition at the Lake George Arts Project, Courthouse Gallery next November 2015. You know what that means? Many trips to this magically beautiful landscape.

The Lizard found a home!
